Dad.

I’m writing this mostly as a reminder for myself but also to you to never take for granted the ones we love. (And maybe it will help explain partly why I have been neglecting the photography part of my life in the last few weeks.)

I’m sure most of you have heard about my Dad’s fall. He landed on his head while playing football in a garage with a concrete floor. The doctors said he suffered a brain injury similar to that of a head on collision, and may never be able to speak, calculate, or comprehend again. I’m so thankful to be able to say that thanks to praying people all over the globe and our Almighty God miracles are happening in his life, daily. Last night for the first, he talked. It didn’t necessarily make sense, but that didn’t matter. It was a HUGE step. One of many.

I’m not gonna lie- most days I would give just about anything to have my dad back. I go to market (he owns a restaurant in the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia) and I see him everywhere. And I miss him. I think of all the times he acted so crazy, and I kick myself for not laughing at him. For not thinking he’s funny. And for not telling him how much he means to me.

So I write this partially as a reminder, but also to publicly tell my dad,
“I love you. You are my hero, but you’re also my friend and I thank you for that.”

My parents just bought a cabin along Pine Creek this summer, so that’s where he spent ALL of his free time.

He rode this gator like a maniac all over the mountain… Seriously.

Those of you who know him, completely understood what I meant when I said he acted crazy.
Those of you who don’t, this is a prime example.
All of his siblings surprised my grandma and grandpa in Florida a few winters ago.
My poor grandma was so freaked out by these strange people who just came walking into their house. 🙂

And this was just this past Christmas. He was so proud of those big, ridiculous Steelers slippers. 🙂

I love you both. So much.

    xoxo. Kayla
